The new Academy will upskill local people to secure a broad range of jobs on the West Midlands section of HS2 - Britain’s new high-speed railway.
With 30 new apprentices set to join the business in September 2021, HS2 is making progress in delivering on its promise to create 2,000 apprenticeships over the project’s lifetime.
HS2 Ltd has supported the development of advanced 4D learning technology that enables site teams to identify, record and resolve site hazards as part of a virtual construction sequence.
The new contract opportunities will provide thousands of businesses and their employees with guaranteed incomes, and help the country’s economic recovery, stated HS2 Ltd's CEO, Mark Thurston.
The announcement supports HS2 Ltd's commitment to create at least 2,000 apprenticeships during the life span of the project.
The deals with HS2 contractors will see GB Railfreight join forces with Rail Stone Solutions to deliver aggregates by rail to the high-speed rail project’s main construction compounds.
Over the next decade, up to 15,000 freight trains will haul 10 million tonnes of aggregate to HS2 construction sites, representing a massive reduction in carbon emissions and marking a significant investment for Britain’s rail freight sector.
